You’ve seen our 10 Best Rock Albums of 2016, and as we say goodbye to 2016, we count down our picks for the 10 Best Rock Songs of the year.

In 2016, Highly Suspect raised themselves up as one of rock’s great future leaders. With the band’s sophomore album, The Boy Who Died Wolf, Highly Suspect show promise for several hits, including the album’s opening track, “My Name is Human,” which has already hit No. 1 at rock radio. You’ll see the track in a prominent place on this list and you’ll likely see more great things from Highly Suspect in the near future.

Disturbed’s bombshell cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” was officially released in the closing weeks of 2015, so it just missed our lists last year. But throughout 2016, we’ve seen the song become a rock phenomenon, going platinum in the United States. The official video has accumulated over 160 million views on YouTube and Disturbed’s performance of the cut on Conan has been seen over 40 million times. Disturbed received a Grammy nod for their cover, so we’re just one of many to praise the beautifully constructed re-imagining.
