After the 2015 season, the Amarillo ThunderHeads decided to merge teams.

Now, the AirHogs will call Amarillo their temporary home. They will play part-time in Amarillo and part-time in Grand Prairie, the original location of the team.

The ThunderHeads and AirHogs were both part of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball's Southern Division. The organization had 13 teams, which caused problems with the schedule. So the owners of both teams decided that a merger would be the best solution.

Amarillo has had many team changes over the past few years. In fact, the ThunderHeads had their first season in 2015. Before that, their team name was the Sox from 2011 until 2014. The Amarillo Dillas played from 1994 until 2010. There were six other team changes before that.

As for the AirHogs, they were founded in Grand Prairie in 2007.

The possibility of a AAA baseball team coming to Amarillo is still in the works. Amarillo is also in the middle of construction on a new, multi-million dollar baseball stadium downtown.

The AirHogs will have their first home game for the 2016 season on June 6th in Amarillo.
