I was browsing through some of my favorite sites the other night, and I came across something interesting. An individual posted a link to a story about a law in Texas that allows for, basically, old school duels. They call it "mutual combat."

Before you get excited and polish up your sword and single shot musket, there are some things you need to know.

First, no weapons are allowed. The law does make it possible for two people to enter into an agreement to settle an issue via combat. What it does not allow for is the use of deadly weapons.

The days of settling land disputes with a revolver and ten paces in opposite directions are long behind us.

Second, while you may use only your fists, you may not cause "serious bodily harm." So no going "ham" on someone causing them to have serious medical issues after.

There must also be an established agreement. The two parties can sign a document, verbally agree, or any other number of ways to show that they both willingly enter the scrap.

I do love the idea of handling a disagreement with a gentlemen's duel. Just not sure I want to do the legal tango I would have to do afterwards. And I'm not sure I would recommend this over just walking away and letting it go.
