Jake Rogers will call Houston his new home this year.

On June 15th, Canyon-native Jake Rogers signed with the Houston Astros.

Rogers graduated from Canyon High School in 2013 and went to Tulane University, where he played college baseball. Rogers was a catcher for the Green Wave until this year, when he was given the chance to go pro.

Rogers was selected during the third round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Friday, June 10th. He is the 97th person from Tulane to be drafted as a first-year player.

The highlight of Rogers's season this year was a game-winning hit against Ole Miss.

He also holds a Tulane University school record and was picked for the 2016 NCAA Oxford All-Regional Team.

Rogers's impressive record made him an obvious pick for Major League Baseball. He signed with 5 other draft picks.

Congratulations to our newest local celebrity Jake Rogers on his accomplishments. We are excited to see where his career will go from here!
