The city south of Amarillo is considered an ideal destination.

Livability analyzed small towns across America for the best school systems, activities, economies, and lowest crime rates. According to their study, Canyon is the ninth best small town.

Canyon isn't just the gateway to Palo Duro Canyon, a state park that gets thousands of visitors every year. It's also home to over 13,000 residents and 10,000 college students.

West Texas A&M is a source of economic stimulation and entertainment to the town. The D2 university has a notable business program and access to one of the world's largest wind turbine testing facilities through its research program.

The Canyon Independent School District also boasts outstanding test scores and student achievement.

As for the town itself, Canyon has a small selection of businesses but you can pretty much get what you need. There are several locally-owned restaurants, boutiques, chiropractic clinics, insurance offices, real estate agents, beauty salons, and thrift stores. They've even seen the arrival of vape shops, nutritional supplement stores, and one payday loan business.

According to the study, Canyon's civic engagement index is 108, higher than the national average of 100, and their crime rate index is 34, lower than the national average of 100.

If you want to visit Canyon, you can check out the town square, Palo Duro Canyon, and Friday night football that rivals what you see in the movies.
