Amarillo has seen several wildfires over the last week, and with the heat, wind and no rain, the possibility of more wildfires are high.   However,  you might notice smoke and a fire in the north Potter County area but do not worry, it is a scheduled controlled burn.

The Potter County Sheriffs Department announced that a controlled burn will be taking place today.  It will take place in north Potter County in the area just north of where the Valle De Oro wildfire happened.

This burn will start around 9am and continue until around 6pm.  They will burn 3500-5500 acres.

Please note there will be lots of smoke pluming.
