Floyd Mayweather wore down Conor McGregor before defeating the MMA fighter via technical knockout in the 10th round in a much-hyped boxing match at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on Saturday night.

Coming out of a two-year retirement to face UFC Lightweight champ McGregor, Mayweather looked sluggish in the early rounds. However, the 40-year-old former boxing champ built momentum that gradually overwhelmed the 29-year-old Irish fighter, technically knocking out the first-time boxer with a flurry of punches in round 10.

With the decisive victory in what he claimed was his final fight, Mayweather moved his career record to a historic 50-0. The win allowed him to eclipse late heavyweight champ Rocky Marciano (1947-1955), for most wins without a loss/draw in boxing history.

The highly anticipated fight was delayed till after midnight on the East Coast when pay-per-view vendors could not handle all of the customer orders “due to overwhelming demand,” according to Showtime executive vice president Stephen Espinoza.

Once the fighters did get into the ring, McGregor took on the role of aggressor by dominating the early action. A right upper cut stunned Mayweather early on, but the boxer gradually began to demonstrate his ring skill, landing heavy blows on McGregor in the sixth and seventh rounds.

By the 10th, a tiring McGregor seemed gassed and Mayweather went to work with a succession of punches before referee Robert Byrd stopped the bout at 1:05 of the round.
