As I write this, the rain is pouring down. We have seen a very stormy and rainy start to October which is just what the Texas Panhandle needed. The heaviest rains caused Flash Flood and Flood Warnings across the Amarillo area and have caused some of the biggest flooding the area has seen in years. The rains even prompted a high water rescue along Hagy and Wallace near the hospital district on Sunday the 7th (see photo above).

So just how much rain have we seen? Between Friday, October 5th and Monday, October 8th (6:52am) the Amarillo region has seem anywhere from 2.17" to 4.59" with more heavy rain in the forecast.

Heading into the month of October, parts of the Texas Panhandle were still classified as extreme drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. New maps are released every Thursday.
