Kelton Student Will Have Artwork Featured At U.S. Capitol
Felicia Butler, a student at Kelton School in Wheeler, won the Congressional Art Competition.
The Congressional Art Competition is a tradition dating back to 1982. Students from each of the 435 congressional districts in the U.S. submit artwork and a winner is chosen by their local representative. The winning piece is featured in the U.S. Capitol for a full year.
Congressman Mac Thornberry said, "Felicia’s piece of the bison is representative of the Texas panhandle and demonstrates a great deal of artistic talent. I am proud to have it represent our district in the Capitol building for the next year.”
Last year's winner from Texas District 13 was Michael Alvarez, a student from Caprock High School, with a portrait of his grandfather titled, "Homage To Tito."
This year, a young lady from Wheeler was chosen to represent our district.
The winning piece is a beautiful painting of bison titled, "Movement on the Plains."
Felicia is invited to attend a ceremony in Washington, D.C. to celebrate her accomplishment and visit Congressman Thornberry at the Capitol.
