2017 is just over the horizon, and as ever, a New Year brings with it the promise of a new Power Rangers series. And this time, it's combining ninjas, robots, an intergalactic game show, and magic crystals.

Debuting in January on Nickelodeon, Power Rangers Ninja Steel marks the 24th installment of the long-running franchise, and if you can't wait another month to get a look at the new Rangers, don't fret: There's a teaser for the new series with plenty of explosions, robots, and even a glimpse of the new cast.

Ninja Steel is, of course, based on Shuriken Sentai Ninninger, the 39th Super Sentai series and the third to be built around the theme of ninjas. It told the story of a family of "shinobi who won't stay hidden" who were tasked with battling an army of evil yokai monsters. And just in case that wasn't a solid enough premise, they were later joined by an American character who transformed into his sentai form by using a device shaped like a hamburger and then fought bad guys with an electric guitar that was also a gun. So, you know, I think we can all agree that they got America pretty much exactly right. Oh, and also one of the characters claimed that he went to Wizard School in England.

Ninja Steel, however, will adapt this story into a more metaphorical format, with their lead enemy Galvanax as the champion of an intergalactic game show who will broadcast their battles to audiences across the universe. So basically, Ninja Steel sounds like Power Rangers meets Marvel Two-In-One Annual #7, but with ninjas, thus making it quite possibly the best premise of all time.
