Sammy Hagar: Scheduling to Determine Whether Chickenfoot or The Circle Record Will Come Next

Sammy Hagar plans to be busy with new music in 2018, but where his focus will lie remains to be seen. Hagar revealed his plans to host Eddie Trunk on his Trunk Nation radio show, explaining that he’ll either be working on Chickenfoot‘s third studio album or the first disc from his other band The Circle.

The recent Loudwire Music Awards Humanitarian Award winner told Trunk (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), “Joe [Satriani] and I have been talking, when he finishes his [solo] tour next June, if he has enough time and if Chad [Smith]‘s available, about doing another Chickenfoot record. And if they can’t do it, if we can’t all get together, then I’m gonna do a Circle record. It’s gonna be one or the other. Those are my two favorite bands in the world, and I would like to do a Circle record.”

Hagar does have some concerns about a fresh record from his newer project, explaining, “I’m just afraid that, how can you compare my catalog with something we might write today? Chickenfoot’s got its own thing, but The Circle, we play Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, Montrose, Chickenfoot … It’s, like, to write songs that fit in that set, boy, they better be good, right? [Laughs] In between ‘I Can’t Drive 55′ and ‘Right Now,’ let’s say, what are you gonna … a brand new one you’re gonna slip in there? Phew! You don’t wanna put the people to sleep. So I’m a little nervous about doing a Circle record. But a Chickenfoot record … I’m gonna do a record — let’s put it that way.”

Chickenfoot’s last original recording, their sophomore set dubbed Chickenfoot III, was released in 2011. However, the band did keep their name in the public conscious last year by issuing their Best + Live compilation. For the supergroup, scheduling has been the toughest issue as Chad Smith’s been busy with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Satriani’s promoted his own music, while Hagar and Michael Anthony have launched The Circle. That band, which started in 2014, also features guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer Jason Bonham.

So stay tuned and look for Sammy Hagar dipping into the studio with one of his two bands in 2018, depending on how the scheduling turns out.
