Sometimes I take for granted the nice town that I have grown up in. I mean, when you are a teenager and young adult, all you can think about is leaving! Now, I can honestly say "I really love this City". Amarillo is full of many different things that make it a great place to live.

    Cold Amarillo Winters

Some people hate cold weather, I on the other hand love it. Especially when it snows. I'm of the mentality that 'The more the better'! I love waking up in the morning and seeing the yard and cars covered in snow. To sit at home, snowed in, with a hot bowl of chili and Tivo. It sure makes for a nice lazy day. While we might be in Texas, here in the panhandle we can really have some snow dumped on us. It's always fun to play with the kiddo in the snow and get in a snow ball fight or two. And if you're brave enough, you can break out the sled and go out to Medi-park! Bring on the snow!

    Warm Amarillo Summers

On the flip side of the coin, we have really warm summers. Sometimes to the point of blazing hot. But, if that's the case, its makes for a great day at Lake Greenbelt or just a local swimming pool. I myself love fishing, so when summertime comes are, or springtime for that matter, I break out the poles and get some worms. There are some nice little places to go fish right inside the city limits. Medi-park and Southeast Park are two of my favorites with lots of shade and some good size fish. When the cold winter starts to end, I know I'm only a couple months from getting to drop a line in the water.

    Amazing Amarillo Sunsets

Amarillo is known for its lack of hills and trees. While this makes it seem like a barren flat land, when the sun starts to hit the horizon, it doesn't get much more beautiful. Many photographers and painters frequent the area simply to experience the sunsets and sunrises here on the high plains. With the perfect mixture of clouds and amazing sunsets, it is quite picturesque. I tend to think that is God's gift for all the wind that we deal with here in Amarillo.

    Palo Duro Canyon

Palo Duro Canyon is a great place to visit, whether you live in Amarillo or are just passing through. It's not too expensive, and it really is beautiful. Granted, it's no 'Grand Canyon', but it is an amazingly beautiful place with tons to do. If you like to hike and explore, there are many trails and caves that you can riggle your way into. Also, there is one of the best mountain bike circuit trails in Texas right here in the canyon. Whether your are a novice or expert, these trails will challenge you to the max. There are camp spots and the trading post which you can fill up on goodies and a restaurant on the floor of the canyon to fuel up your personal tank.

    Great Texas Food

If you have been to Amarillo, or watch the travel channel from time to time, you will see that the food here is a big deal. From The Big Texan to the little hole in the wall joints like The Coyote Bluff Cafe, Amarillo has some of the best food in the country. One of our claims to fame here are the BBQ joints. There are a ton of them here and each has it's own flare. If you want a list of some of My favorites, check my post on The Best Place To Have Your Thanksgiving Turkey Smoked! It's all about the BBQ!
