If you’ve visited YouTube today (Nov. 12), you may have noticed something different. The normal homepage now boasts a music tab -- the beginning of the website’s brand-new music-streaming service, Music Key.

The new page immediately features recommendations based on artists you’ve viewed in the past, nonstop playlists you can build and customize to your liking, and currently trending videos -- all at no cost.

However, the paid version of the service will offer ad-free play, higher-quality audio and access to Google Play. And if you’ve ever been annoyed when your YouTube video pauses when switching to another app on your phone, Music Key has a fix. The new service will allow users to keep listening while using other apps and save songs for offline play.

On Nov. 17, YouTube will launch a free, invite-only beta version of Music Key for six months in the U.S., U.K. and other countries across Europe. Then, users will have a chance to grab the service for a promotional price of $7.99 a month. Afterward, all listeners will be able to subscribe to Music Key for $9.99 per month.

Before the launch of the new service, YouTube negotiated a licensing deal with smaller indie labels to avoid takedown threats that would’ve kept content from artists -- including the Arctic Monkeys -- off of the website.
