River Hobbs, 6, is recovering from his injuries after being attacked by a mountain lion. The attack took place as his family returned to their room from the Big Bend National Park main lodge.

“It sneaked up on me,” Hobbs told the station.

Jason Hobbs, the boys father, attacked the animal as it began to go for his son's face. After struggling with that animal, Hobbs stabbed the mountain lion with his pocket knife. The animal then fleed.

"The cat was clamped onto his face, I reached down and got my pocket knife out and stabbed the cat in the chest and it let go at that point,” Jason Hobbs told the station.

"This cat ran in front of me, had to cross in front of me and grab my son and dragged me and my son away from where we were walking. I still had him by the hand for a good while and then the animal gave a huge jerk and pulled him to the ground and took him by the face,” said Harris.
