For over seven years, a new aquatic center has been a subject of debate for the Canyon City Council members. Voters put the debate to rest last year when they approved a $6,000,000 bond for the new water park and aquatic center.  After many planning and budget meetings, it became clear that the city would need to make some budget cuts.

The plan for the aquatic center is to have slides, a lazy river, a kids’ area with tipping buckets, a competition pool, a swimming pool, a group pavilion for parties, and a much bigger parking lot. City Planner Randy Criswell shared with KVII News 7 that those features are still in the plan. They are just revisiting smaller things, like covered walkways and light bulbs, among other things. They will be saving around $481,000 for the city.

Construction is still ready to start in May 2017.
