Michelle Obama and Jill Biden served as Grand Marshals for the last NASCAR race of 2011, and ended up being booed by some fans at the race. Obama and Biden were at Homestead-Miami Speedway to promote the new Joining Forces campaign for the hiring of veterans.

While the soldiers who were there were cheered for, the moment the two first ladies were announced, many fans began booing them. Many say the booing was quite loud and very apparent, while others stated that you could not hear it from all the other events taking place at the same time.
