As a high-profile rock star for 30 years, Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx knows how to work it for photographers when the cameras are focused on him.

Sixx also knows what to do when he’s the one operating the camera. Some of Sixx’s latest images — inspired in part by David Bowie, T-Rex and the New York Dolls — can be seen in the current issue of Alexa, the New York Post‘s fashion magazine.

“The concept was something that’s dear to my heart, which is a ’70s glam theme,” Sixx says. “Mixing fashion and music together [is] so important. … [I was] trying to not have it look just like a fashion shoot, but to have a little more texture to it.”

Sixx shot the cover as well as inside images for the current issue of Alexa, which was included in the Dec. 7 edition of the Post. This fashion spread caps off a year of big-time exposure for Sixx’s photos; his book ‘This is Gonna Hurt: Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx’ was published in the spring by William Morrow (and is nominated for Book of the Year in the ultra-prestigious 2011 Ultimate Classic Rock Awards, said the editor.)

“People are realizing that I’m not really a one-trick pony,” Sixx says. “It’s really awesome for the audience to go, ‘Wow, I didn’t know he was a photographer.’ “
