Saying that Texas politics "can get outlandish" is an understatement. There have been some crazy bills introduced in this legislative session, we have larger than life candidates, mud slinging, but nothing may compare to a random Twitter war between a Texas politician and a famous comic.

Yesterday, a Twitter account for Senator John Cornyn (R-Tex) got into it with Patton Oswalt. Patton popped up in a campaign video for Cornyn's challenger, MJ Hegar, and it earned the ire of the Senator's campaign Twitter account. (By the way, her campaign video is one of the best I've seen. I still like Hayden Pedigo's more, but maybe I have a local bias.)

This didn't go over well with Patton's fans, or with Patton himself. Apparently no one thought to remind the campaign account for Senator Cornyn that you better be ready when you fire shots at someone who gets paid to be quick, witty, and sharp.

Oswalt's followers jumped in on the fun, and it was brutal. Eventually, Patton would be trending on Twitter. Patton took a second to point it out for the Senator's campaign just in case they missed it.

Patton also gets points for throwing in a DOOM reference. I'm a sucker for nostalgic references to 90's era video games.

If I've learned anything from watching Texas politics, even at the local level, it's leave your expectations at the door. There is absolutely no telling what is going to happen next.
