I remember as a kid, sitting around the TV watching old game shows with my dad and brothers. It was a much simpler time when the television only had 4 channels and a twisty knob that sounded like you were breaking it when changing the channel. But, my most prominent memory of watching game shows has to come from every time I was sick (or pretended to be sick to stay home from school) and stayed home watching game shows. Ah, those were the days. While only a few of those game shows made the list, they will stick with me forever. Here is my list of the Top 10 Game Shows of all time.

    Press Your Luck

Hosted By Peter Tomarken - Aired From 1983 - 1986

On Press Your Luck, three contestants competed for cash and prizes, with the objective being to accumulate the highest money total. Each episode consists of four rounds: A question round, a Big Board round, a second question round and then a second Big Board round with higher money amounts and prize values.

Best part of this show was when people would hit the Whammy! If you ever watched the show you remember all the contestants "BIG BUCKS, BIG BUCKS" and then BAM - Whammy! I always loved the Whammys.

    The Price Is Right

Hosted By Bob Barker, Currently Drew Carey - Aired From 1956 - Present

In the show, contestants compete to win cash and prizes by bidding on the pricing of merchandise. The program has been critically successful and remains a stalwart in the television ratings. It also managed to break away from the quiz show format that has been used in other game shows.

Price is right was the so great. I always loved when they had the chance to win 'A Brand, NEW, CAR!'. The excitement as people would make their bid with hopes of actually getting to play, and then there was always that one person "I'll Bet A Dollar Bob" and never make it. Then on to the showcase showdown where you could win a whole ton of stuff, well this video made me laugh like crazy. Poor guy.

    $100,000 Pyramid

Hosted By Dick Clark, Donny Osmond - Aired 1973 - 2004

The Winner's Circle included a larger pyramid, also composed of six boxes. Each box contained a category, such as "Things You Plan" or "Why You Exercise", and were revealed one at a time. One player (usually the celebrity, though the contestant always had the option to give or receive except in the first season of Donny Osmond's version) gave a list of items to the other player, who attempted to guess the category to which all of the described items belonged. Each category was worth a small amount of money and correctly guessing all six categories in 60 seconds won the top prize.

This was one of my Dad's favorites and it's nice to watch it now and automatically be transported back in time. It's amazing how things have changed. Even though some things change, this show is a timeless classic.

    Wheel Of Fortune

Hosted at different times by Chuck Woolery, Pat Sajak, Rolf Benirschke and Bob Goen, with Susan Stafford and Vanna White serving as Hostesses. - Aired From 1975 - Present

After pitching the 'Hangman Style' idea and being told that it needed a "hook", he decided to add a roulette-style wheel, because he was always "drawn to" such wheels when he saw them in casinos.

One of the all time best game shows ever, and that is the reason it is still on today. Whether you watched to see Vanna turning the letters or guessing the puzzles, this show has done nothing but gain popularity. I think if they tried to cancel this show, there would be a revolt in nursing homes across the country.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

    Hosted By Regis Philbin/Meredith Vieir - Aired From 1999 - 2010

American television quiz show which offers a maximum prize of $1,000,000 for correctly answering 14 consecutive multiple-choice questions of random difficulty.[2] The show is based on and follows the same general format as the original version of the show, from the United Kingdom, and is now part of the international Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? franchise.

This show took the primetime slot by storm and is still captivating viewers today. This show really makes you think, and rewards those who do. I had a friend make the preliminary, but never actually made the show. He was smart, but apparently not, 'Millionaire Smart'. This show is quite entertaining and I still catch myself watching it today.

    Love Connection

    Hosted By Chuck Woolery - Aired 1983 - 1994

By the time the couple appeared on the show, they had already met and gone on their date. The guest had been offered his or her choice of three candidates selected by the show's producers. The choice was made solely on the basis of videotaped profiles. The couple then went on a what was essentially a blind date, their first (and often only) face-to-face encounter. After the date, an appearance on the show would be scheduled for the purpose of discussing the details of the date.

I don't know anyone who isn't a fan of this show in some way. This show was hilarious and a great way to see how people interacted when thrown together. When you think about it, this was the most early for of eHarmony ever. Imagine that, Chuck started the 'First Dating Site'.

    Cash Cab

Hosted By Ben Baily - Aired 2006 - Present

When the potential contestants enter the cab and state their destination, they are made aware that they are in the Cash Cab as ceiling lights and a fanfare play inside, accompanied by the host's greeting. While the only rules given on-camera after the introduction and before asking "Do you want to play?" pertain to his or her driving and the "three strikes and you're out" rule.

This show makes me want to go to New York just in the hopes of landing in the 'Cash Cab'. Great show hosted by stand up comedian 'Ben Baily' which tests your knowledge of trivia, rewarding you if you get it right or kicking you out of the cab if you miss three questions. How fun is that, unless you get kicked out in the Bronx somewhere!

    The Newlywed Game

    Hosted By Bob Eubanks, Gary Kroeger - Aired 1966 - 1974, 1985 - 1989

American television game show that pits newly-married couples against each other in a series of revealing question rounds to determine how well the spouses know (or don't know) each other. The show became famous for some of the arguments that couples had over incorrect answers and even led to some divorces.

This show has made fodder for some of the best bloopers in TV history. Nothing makes people laugh harder than newlyweds completely laying their life out for everyone to see, and laugh at. Some of the things said on this show are enough to make a person blush and at other times are down right dirty. The raw aspect of this show and all the quirky couples they brought on make this show a ton of fun still today, just check it out on youtube.

    Family Feud

Hosted By Richard Dawson, Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, John O'Hurley and Steve Harvey - Aired 1976 - Present

Representatives of the family of contestants are posed questions that have already been answered by a survey of 100 people although, sometimes, the surveyed audience would be further narrowed down (e.g. "100 women"). An answer is considered correct if it is one of the concealed answers on the game board, or judged to be equivalent.

Family Feud was an almost craze of the 70's and 80's and even into this millenium. They families brought onto the show were always super stoked about being on the show and let me laughing like crazy. From the little old lady who was crazy about the host, to the kids who had the strangest answers to questions. This one will stay with me forever.

Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader

    Hosted By Jeff Foxworthy - Aired 2007 - 2009

5th Grader games are played by a single contestant, who attempts to answer ten questions (plus a final bonus question). Content is taken from elementary school textbooks, two from each grade level from first to fifth. Each correct answer increases the amount of money the player banks; a maximum cash prize of US$1,000,000 can be won.

If you're not 'Smarter Than A 5th Grader' then you might not want to watch this show. Talk about making me feel like an idiot! I must have forgotten everything I learned by the 5th grade, because I find myself getting stumped on a lot of these questions. Maybe I should have paid a little more attention while in grade school. This show always has me laughing as the little kids that they have on the show are smart alecs.
