Dee Snider is in favor of pro-choice candidates using Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It," the 1984 hit he wrote with the glam-metal rockers. The song has previously been used in the political sphere, most notably by Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential run. (Watch the video down toward the bottom of the page.)

Snider initially allowed Trump's use of the tune, as the two were friends at the time, Yahoo Music reported Monday (May 20). However, he ultimately revoked the eventual president's rights after distancing himself from Trump.

When probed again on the matter this week, the songwriter said current candidates for 2020 are free to use Twister Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" if they are advocating for a woman's right to control her own body.

"There's a simple litmus test here: Are you pro-choice?" Snider replied. "And by pro-choice, I mean all choices. I mean, pro-people's rights to choose, particularly a woman's right to choose. I feel very strongly. And that is the litmus test. … So yeah, if you're pro-choice, yeah, go for it."

He continued, "I hate the whole concept of pro-choice versus … well, I call it 'no choice.' It's not like you choose for yourself, and that means you can have children, or you don't have children. They're like, 'No, we're deciding for you what is right for you.' Anybody who is pro-choice, and has at least that position, knock yourself out."

He added his song-use stipulation extends to all parties, "Republican [or] Democrat," as long as they're pro-choice. The particular debate has again been brought to the national fore after Alabama signed the most aggressively anti-abortion law in recent American history last Wednesday, May 15, as Time reported.
