A ban on red light cameras has made it all the way to the final stop before becoming law. The fate of red light cameras now rests in the hands of the Governor.

The new legislation not only bans the cameras, but also bans cities from doing business with red light camera vendors in the future.

And, if you have "delinquent" tickets from a red light camera, they can't be used to deny you registering your vehicle.

There are studies that show the cameras can actually increase the number of accidents on the road. Those in favor of the ban say that this is not an issue of safety alone, but also an issue of our constitutional rights.

Now the bill will go to the Governor's desk and wait for the final signature before becoming law.

Oddly enough, Amarillo "doubled down" on the cameras and planned to install more while upgrading existing ones.
