It's a moment that many hard core Van Halen fans have been waiting for. New music from the original bad boys of rock, featuring lead vocalist David Lee Roth. Roth left the group after their highly successful album, '1984' and was replaced by Sammy Hagar. This divided the VH camp into two sides. Diamond Dave vs. Van Hagar. No one can deny the success of the group with either lead singer and both versions of the band had reached many musical highs, but fans have always wanted Roth to come back to the fold. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

On Tuesday, the group, featuring Eddie, Alex, Wolfie Van Halen and David Lee Roth released the first single, 'Tattoo,' off their upcoming album, 'A Different Kind of Truth.' Not only does the song harken back to the early days of VH, but as some fans have commented, it's a total ripoff from a previously unreleased song called, "Down In Flames' from 1977.

According to former front man Hagar, who spoke to Rolling Stone Magazine in November, most of this album is just unreleased old material.

"I mean stuff from before I even joined the band. Ed and Dave didn't actually write new songs. They took old stuff from previous sessions, and then maybe Dave had to go in and add vocals because they just had scat vocals, or even no vocal part at all."

Take a listen to both 1977's 'Down In Flames' and the new single, 'Tattoo" and decide for yourself if they are pretty much the same record.

On a side not, I personally think Dave's vocal are better than ever on this record, but time will tell on the success of the new album, expected to be released in February.

Either way, fans will be standing in line to see Dave and the boys back in action as they take off for a major concert tour this year.
