The school year is about to get started, which means our morning commutes are about to get a little bit more crowded. Don't forget to slow down.

The city of Amarillo issued a reminder today for everyone to slow down in school zones, and to slow down around crosswalks and buses. Here is the video in case you missed it.

Also, APD reminded everyone that you must stop for school buses, and to be on the lookout for kids crossing the street.

APD also put out a reminder to everyone to leave a little earlier on your morning commutes so you have enough time to get where you need to go.

With the school year starting back it's time to start thinking about the extra bodies that will be out early in the morning and in the afternoon. We encourage all parents to talk with their children about traffic safety, but we also want to remind the drivers to slow down. Be mindful for children that know they shouldn't cross the street without looking, but just forget to do so. Know that school busses will be making frequent stops to load and unload and the law states that you MUST stop while they are doing so. Give yourself enough extra time in the morning to ensure that you aren't in a hurry to get where you need to be.
