When it comes to working in an office, you work with a bunch of personalities.  Sometimes you have to allow for the occasional disagreement, however sometimes, things just really irritate you.  There are so many things that other people do that annoy another, and vice versa.  So what are some work place pet peeves.  I polled some people around my office.

Kitchen Etiquette

People Not Cleaning Up After Themselves

loading...

There is always those co-workers that constantly make a mess and never, never, never, clean up after themselves.  The always leave messes on the counter, they leave their dirty dishes in the sink and they never throw anything away.

Not Changing Out the Water Cooler Bottle/or Replacing the Drinks in the Fridge After Taking the Last One

Nothing is more frustrating than going to the fridge with the intention of grabbing a drink only to find an empty box where the water or soda should be. The last person in the fridge took the last drink and didn't bother restocking the fridge.  Same goes for the water cooler, they take the last of the water and don't change out the bottle (I completely understand that the bottle is heavy, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't change it out, ask for help).

Taking the Last Cup of Coffee and Not Making Anymore

These are the people that want coffee, but don't want to make coffee.  They will take the last of it and leave just a tiny little bit in the bottom of the pot.  If there is just a tiny bit left, they don't have to make a new pot of coffee for the next person.

Stealing Food

Just because it is in the refrigerator, doesn't mean it is fair game.  If you didn't bring it and you didn't get permission to eat or drink it.  Don't take it.

Bathroom Etiquette

Not Changing Out the Toilet Paper Roll/Paper Towels

Some offices have a cleaning crew that takes care of this, some don't, however, if you use the last of either of the above, logic says, "hey maybe I should replace this with a new roll."  However, some people don't have this logic.

Leaving the Restroom a Mess

There is nothing worse than walking into a bathroom and finding paper towels, TP, and other things strewn all over the floor, toilets not flushed or a counter top covered in water.  This is from a woman's point of view, I cannot even imagine what the men's room looks like.  Again logic serves, if you don't make it into the trash can pick it up and put it in the trash can.  If you flood the counter top with water grab a paper towel and wipe up your mess.  And for the love of Pete, flush the toilet.  Yes, sometimes the toilet doesn't flush correctly, but most of the time they do.  FLUSH THE TOILET.  No one wants to see that.

Playing Your Music Too Loud/Singing at the Top of Your Lungs

Not everyone has the same taste in music.  However, there are some co-workers who will blast their music no matter what.  Then you'll find those co-workers that love to sing.  Most of the time it sounds like bad karaoke and you want your ears to stop working. Maybe your are lucky and sit next to someone with the voice of an angel. More than likely not.

Not Refilling the Copy Machine When it Runs Out of Paper or Fixing a Paper Jam

Let's face it we all have to use copy machines, and there is nothing worse than finding that the last person just walked off without putting paper in or clearing the paper jam.

Being Loud When Your Co-Workers are on the Phone with a Customer

Most of us work in tight quarters.  It never fails, you'll get on the phone with a customer and your co-workers are laughing and cutting up and sometimes dropping cuss words while you are trying to talk to a client/customer.

Using Speaker Phone

Using a speaker phone on occasion is great.  However, if you are on a conference call and using speaker phone, shut your door.  If you work in a cubicle surrounded by other co-workers, pick up the handset so everyone doesn't have to hear.

Sending Email or a Text then Walking into the Person's Workspace and Asking Did you Get My Email.

I get it, we love this world of instant gratification.  However, what is the point of sending an email and then heading straight for that person's office and asking if they saw your email.  You just wasted time writing the email, when you could have just asked them face to face.

Smoking

Most offices these days ban smoking on the premises, however there are some business that offer a smoking area, with a cigarette disposal area.  The "butt can" is there, so why is there cigarette butts all over the ground?

Did your Workplace Pet Peeve make the list?
