[REVIEW] Peanut Butter Craze Hits Sonic in Amarillo – Worth the Hype?

Sonic started advertising their peanut butter craze hitting their stores. I love peanut butter. I never thought I would love adding it to a burger but I gave it a try a couple of times before this at different gourmet burger places.

When Sonic came out with adding a burger and a shake on their menu I thought I wanted to see how they would be. Would it be able to compare with the one I had over Christmas at Lazy Dog in Dallas? Probably not but it would be one I could grab on the go.

So I went and ordered both the Peanut Butter Bacon Cheeseburger and the Peanut Butter Bacon Shake. I just went with the single burger because I could have gotten myself the Peanut Butter Bacon SuperSonic Double Cheeseburger but I refrained from that one.

The Good

The Peanut Butter Bacon Shake was great. I mean from start to finish. It looked good, It tasted good. It had bits of bacon in the shake. The peanut butter taste of the shake was wonderful. This was my favorite part of the meal. I even started with it first because it looked so good.

So I would definitely go back and have another Peanut Butter Bacon Shake.

The Bad

I really wanted to like the burger. Like I said, I had no problem with the idea of peanut butter and bacon on a burger. I have had several before at restaurants. So I knew I could and should like this burger. The problem is that I didn't.

I went to one Sonic on Friday and got the burger. I really thought they gave me the wrong burger. It was in the correct wrapper. So I am not sure.

The problem is that I did not see any peanut butter on the burger. I didn't taste any peanut butter on the burger. I could taste the bacon and onions but no peanut butter so I was disappointed.

I thought maybe this was a fluke. I will try another one. So I went to a different Sonic and ordered the exact same burger. This time there was peanut butter on it. I could see it on the wrapper.

So at least this was promising. There was peanut butter. The problem is that the peanut butter seemed to be more smeared on the wrapper. I could get a little taste of peanut butter but not much on the actual burger.

I am not sure if they put the peanut butter on when the burger was hot so it all melted off. I don't know if they need something cool like lettuce or a tomato to be the buffer to keep the peanut butter on the burger.

It's just not something I will get again. Oh, but that shake was a winner in my book all day and every day.
